Symposium on Cross Fertilization Project on Hans-on and Innovative Capabilities of Students Held at BISTU

Beijing, 15th June, 2017 (BISTU)—Cross Fertilization Project on Hans-on and Innovative Capabilities of Students at Beijing Universities, a project sponsored by Beijing Municipal government, holds symposium on sharing projects in field teaching on Xiaoying Campus of BISTU, attended by directors of academic affairs offices and project managers from 13 universities in Beijing such as Tsinghua University. The Symposium, addressed to by Vice President Xu Baojie, is hosted by Rong Yanning, investigator of Beijing Municipal Education Commission. 

In his address, Xu Baojie welcomes officials from Municipal Education Commission and directors and managers. He points out that it is necessary for all universities to bring their strengths and advantages into full play, fully utilize current quality resources in field practice teaching, construct a base of openness and sharing, and realize the objectives of regional resource integration, coordinated education and teaching, and serving the society. BISTU would like to enhance cooperation with universities attending the project and will be open to public to serve the society, universities, and neighboring primary and middle schools. Says Xu Baojie.    

Director Wang Xingfen of Academic Affairs Office introduces progress at BISTU with Cross Fertilization Project on Hans-on and Innovative Capabilities of Students at Beijing Universities. The University, based on open lab for engineers of excellence and the principle of “coordinated innovation, featured development, sharing and openness”, brings its academic strengths in robot technology and information technology into full play. Currently, the University has established four modules, i.e. simulation factory, field practice for internet of things, micro-smart factory, and robot engineering technology, which could offer 8 field practice platforms for 12 comprehensive field practice courses. All these courses, as optional courses, are open to students studying in Beijing. All 16 universities introduce their progress with the Project and conduct discussion on construction of a more efficient, convenient mechanism for sharing, quality and feature of the Project, and enhancement of social service competence of the Project.  

Investigator Rong Yanning positively confirms achievements and works that universities have done for the Project. She emphasized that construction of the Project, on the one hand, shall meet the demand of social economic development and converge advantageous resources systematically on a large scale. On the other hand, it is a must to perfect operation and management system of the Project. More modules shall be developed and inter-university credit transfer shall be further promoted. She says that Beijing Municipal Education Commission will continue to support construction of open and sharing project in field practice teaching so as to help improve education at the universities. 

After the symposium, participants are shown around open lab for engineers of excellence and innovation & entrepreneurship base for BISTU students. Module managers of the Lab introduce functions of each module and courses available for students participating in the Project.  

BISTU will further perfect mechanism for pushing forward the Project and strengthen coordination and interconnectivity with partner universities. Labs of BISTU will be more open and will enhance communication and exchange with partner universities so as to boost reform on education and nurture more engineers of excellence for social economic development of Beijing.
