Beijing, 16th December, 2016 (BISTU)--- Over 100 BISTU students attended the lecture “My Understanding of Your Choice in Senior Years--- Open Your Mind and Follow Us” delivered by International Director Ding Huan of University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) on Jianxiangqiao Campus.
Following her introduction to UMKC and briefing of years of learning and working in the States, Ding Huan explained in detail topics of common concern, such as career planning of college students, planning of studying abroad, how to effectively choose and apply for US universities, how to learn English, and how to cope with problems of learning and living in other countries. She also interacted with the students on specific issues regarding learning in the US.
UMKC is one of BISTU partners in the US. Located in Kansas City of Missouri, it was established in 1929 and joined University of Missouri system in 1963 as one of the four university members. The University’s 12 colleges, i.e., College of Arts and Sciences, Conservatory of Music and Dance, Henry W. Bloch School of Management, Honors College, School of Biological Sciences, School of Computing and Engineering, School of Dentistry, School of Education, School of Law, School of Medicine, School of Nursing and Health Studies, School of Pharmacy, and School of Graduate Studies, offer 90 bachelor programs and about 80 master and doctoral programs to over 16,000 students. It is ranked as one of the top 100 public universities of the US by U.S News & World Report and it has been viewed as the most valued public university and the best university of mid-west by the Princeton Review.
Kansas City, where UMKC is located, is the fourth largest industrial center of the States. The local government is now investing great effort in high-tech industry. It is estimated that IT industry in the city would find about 7000 job openings in the coming five years, which is a wonderful opportunity for internship and job hunting of the students learning there.
Before the lecture, Ding Huan met with and discussed cooperation with BISTU deans, including Dean Li Ning of School of Computer Science, Dr. Lujing, Director of International Cooperation Department, and Vice Dean Zhang Wei of School of Computer Science. The three exchange students now learning with UMKC have deeply impressed Ding Huan.
