Beijing, 6th March 2026 (BISTU)--- BISTU College of Automation (College of Artificial Intelligence) invited Prof. Zheng Yu to deliver an academic seminar on “Spatio-temporal AI: Fundamental Theories and Key Technologies Involved When AI Enters Physical World”on 5th March 2026. Prof. Zheng is currently an ACM Fellow, an IEEE Fellow, and Chairman of KDD China.

President Guo Fu met with Prof. Zheng Yu. In-depth discussions were held on AI-related frontier technologies, cultivation of outstanding talents, and school-enterprise cooperation. Guo Fu warmly welcomed Professor Zheng Yu for sharing his cutting-edge achievements with BISTU faculty and students and hoped that both parties would explore cooperation in a broad spectrum of areas.

Starting from “key challenges and solutions for AI entering our physical world”, Prof. Zheng Yu explained the learning framework and technological evolution of Spatio-temporal AI. Based on cases in Xiong’an New Area, Prof. Zheng Yu illustrated realistic pathways and application values of Spatio-temporal AI in our physical world, winning applauses from all faculty and students.

The seminar was hosted by Dean Fan Junfang of College of Automation (College of Artificial Intelligence) and attended by over 240 faculty and students in the main venue and sub-venues.

Following the seminar, a discussion on key issues was conducted, including academic discipline building, strengths of AI as an academic program, coordinate research, innovation in talent cultivation models, and internship opportunities provided with students.

The event brought industrial vitality and frontier technologies into high-quality development of College of Automation (College of Artificial Intelligence). It would play an important role in innovating talent cultivation models, deepening industry-learning-research integration, and strengthening core competitiveness of academic disciplines.

About Prof. Zheng Yu

Zheng Yu, an ACM Fellow, an IEEE Fellow, and Chairman of KDD China, is a leading talent National Special Support Program for High-Level Talents and an Expert receiving the Special Subsidy from the State Council. He is currently Dean of Institute of Artificial Intelligence of Southwest Jiaotong University and a Chair Professor of Shanghai Jiaotong University. With over 67,000 citations and 117 H-Index, he is the only Chinese scholars winning twice SIGKDD Test-of-Time Award and the only scholar in the world who has won four times SIGSPATIAL 10-Year-Impact-Award. He has been Editor-in-Chief of ACM TIST and Chairman of Program Committee respectively in ICDE 2014 and CIKM 2016. As the Chief Scientist and the Principal Investigator of a national key research project, he has been invited to a number of international conferences as key-note speech deliver, including AAAI2019. MIT Technology Review name Prof. Zheng Yu as TR35 (Top Innovator under 35) in 2013. He is the winner of First Prize in Technology Progress of Chinese Computer Federation, Outstanding Supervisor of Ph.D. Thesis by Chinese Institute of Electronics (twice, respectively in 2022 and 2024), and a winner of Capital Labor Medals. He initiated the intelligent city business in JD and chaired intelligent city construction in Beijing, Xiong’an, and Nantong. He developed an operation system for intelligent city, the very first one in the world, and applied city computing theory to construction of Xiong’an New Area.
