Beijing, 11th March 2026 (BISTU)--- BISTU 2026 commendation meeting was successfully held at Shahe Campus on 11th March 2026. The meeting summarized achievements of 2025, analyzed current challenges in development, and made comprehensive arrangements for key priorities in 2026. Chairperson Xie Jiangling of the University Council hosted the meeting. President Guo Fu made the arrangements of the year.

Xie Jiangling reviewed key breakthroughs and progresses BISTU has made in 2025. He pointed out that the University saw steady progress and improvement in both quality and quantity: “diligence and honor” being promoted, being nominated for “National Model Campus for Spiritual Civilization”, being assessed as “Excellent” three years in a row in performance appraisal of Municipality-administered universities, Astra Residential College being founded, key breakthrough achieved in educational globalization, new educational model incorporating “spring holiday plus learning survey” being established, great progresses being made in admissions and employment of graduating students, etc. Xie Jiangling also analyzed the problems and challenges and stressed that we are courageous enough to take measures in reform to produce feasible and practical solutions.

Regarding how to achieve further progress in the new year, Xie Jiangling put forward earnest expectations and clear requirements for all faculty and staff. First, "Even ten years of drinking ice will not quench our burning passion". We must stay true to our original aspiration and forge ahead with determination. Second, "Better go and weave a net than stand by longing for fish". We should avoid impulsive decisions and empty talks and seize development opportunities with careful planning and hard work.

Third, "A miss is as good as a mile". He stressed that we shall strive for excellence in small things, as small details reflect our attitude and determine our success in major tasks. Fourth, "Each beauty shines its own light; all beauties together make a harmonious world". We should learn from each other, maintain an entrepreneurial mindset, make progress through mutual learning and healthy competition, and build an inclusive and collaborative atmosphere. Fifth, "Only when refinement and substance are well-blended can one be a true gentleman". When it comes to educational administration, we should be rigorous and approachable at work. We shall never compromise on principles. And sixth, " Look up at the stars and keep our feet on the ground. ". We should set goals on a higher standard. However, the ultimate goal is to serve teachers and students. We should treat them with empathy, build a community of mutual development, and support their growth with dedication.

Xie Jiangling emphasized that key priorities of the University deserve full attention of all, including establishing and practicing a correct understanding of what it means to perform well. He called for joint efforts from all faculty and staff and students to build an even better tomorrow for BISTU.

Guo Fu offered an in-depth analysis on current situation and challenges concerning BISTU development. He pointed out that educational policies published by the State and Beijing Municipality have set out clear guidelines for our objective of “building a high-level university with distinctive feature in information technology”.

Centering on the four keywords — understanding the trend, breaking through hardships, acting with steadfastness, and providing safeguards, President Guo Fu made a comprehensive arrangement of the key tasks for the new year. First, we shall take a high strategic stance to assess the situation and break new ground. The university must precisely align with municipal requirements for categorized development for excellence and actively integrate into the construction of the Beijing (Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei) International Science and Technology Innovation Center. Second, we shall promote the integrated development of education, science and technology, and human resources with resolve and dedication. The university will improve coordination mechanisms, optimize resource allocation, and refine evaluation and incentive mechanisms. Third, we shall pursue high-quality development in all aspects with and down-to-earth efforts. With regard to discipline construction, focus would be put on approval of new doctoral programs and growth of emerging interdisciplinary disciplines. Speaking of talent cultivation, we shall focus on deepening the integration of "AI + Education", advancing reform of postgraduate education, and accelerating the pace of international education. In order to facilitate scientific and technological innovation, we shall be able to provide quality service with commercialization of research findings and strengthen the role of research platforms. And fourth, we shall strengthen safeguards to foster a sound environment for educational development. This includes a series of measures taken in respect of new campus construction, learning atmosphere, campus safety, etc.

Guo Fu closed his remarks with a warm vision of BISTU. May every faculty and staff member feel a strong sense of happiness from being needed when entering the laboratory or standing on the podium. May they shine with a sense of achievement from realizing their value when solving difficult problems. May they be filled with a sense of honor from being respected by society as a BISTUer. He hoped that the new year would see team coordination of all faculty, staff, and students in achieving our goals.

Vice Chairperson Wang Wenjie of the University Council hosted the commendation ceremony where winners of a number of awards were commended. The awards were presented by BISTU senior administrators.
