Guo Fu Met with Prof. Shervin Shirmohammadi

Beijing, 26th March 2026 (BISTU)--- Prof. Shervin Shirmohammadi of the University of Ottawa (President of IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society), together with Prof. Yan Ruqiang of Xi’an Jiaotong University (IEEE Fellow, ASME Fellow), visited BISTU on 25th March 2026. President Guo Fu met with the two professors, accompanied by directors of MOE Key Laboratory of Modern Measurement and Control Technology and Department of International Affairs.

Guo Fu extended warm welcome to Prof. Shervin Shirmohammadi and offered a detailed introduction to the University in respect of historical development, latest academic progress, and strategic planning. He expected that both parties could deepen exchange and cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence. Professor Shervin Shirmohammadi expressed thanks for the warm reception and spoke highly of the rapid growth of BISTU. The philosophy of running globalized education at BISTU aligns with global trend in education. He said.

Prof. Shervin Shirmohammadi delivered an academic report on AI trustworthy decisions based under uncertainty. He explored the concept of uncertainty and the role of uncertainty in enhancing credibility of AI system in real life. He also produced an in-depth analysis of uncertainty from the perspective of measurement standards and AI methods.

Prof. Yan Ruqiang delivered an academic report titled “Physics-Informed Neural Network: A New Paradigm for Artificial Intelligence Maintenance”. He explored traceable and transparent decision-making process and explained how to build an explainable intelligent technology system from model to evaluation.

Discussions were then held among BISTU faculty and students, Prof. Shervin Shirmohammadi, and Prof. Yan Ruqiang on trustworthy decision making in AI field and physics-informed modeling methods for trustworthy and explainable AI.

The academic reports provided BISTU faculty and students with a high level platform for international academic exchanges and multi-dimensional research thinking.

The Report was hosted by Executive Deputy Director Wang Liyong of MOE Key Laboratory of Modern Measurement and Control Technology and was attended by over 200 faculty and students from College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, College of Instrument Science and Opto-electronics Engineering, College of Automation (College of Artificial Intelligence), College of Information and Communication Engineering, etc.
