Beijing, 31st May, 2017 (BISTU) --- Academician Wu Jisong delivers a lecture for the 53^rd session of BISTU Diligence and Honor Culture Seminar. Academician Wu Jisong’s report, focusing on the Belt and Road Initiative, Beijing Winter Olympics, and thinking on nurturing international leading talents for Xiongan New Area, is hosted by Vice President Xu Baojie and attended by Vice President Chen Gang, directors of relating divisions, students and faculties of School of Foreign Studies, and faculties of relating fields.  

Centered on the importance of cultivating international leading talents, current status of China’s talents, training scheme, and how to enhance nurturing international talents, the report analyzes pressure and challenge of China’s talent nurturing and produces suggestion for talent nurturing in universities. Wu Jisong points out that on national level, enough importance has been attached to cultivation of international leading talents and efforts have been made in international exchange and recommendation of talents. In view of his research on knowledge economy and his experiences in bidding for the 29^th Olympic Games, Wu Jjisong emphasizes that comprehensive knowledge plays an important role in international affairs and it is also important for universities to enhance the learning of students in knowledge of various fields.    

Wu Jisong believes that three barriers are now posing threats for China to meet the demand of international organizations on talents: the first barrier is language, the second is familiarity with international affairs, and the third is understanding of human resources system of international organizations. With regard to how universities can break the bottleneck in cultivation of international leading talents, Wu Jisong holds that universities shall be confident to seize current previous opportunities and work in line with international norms. Under the grand context of the Belt and Road Initiative, Beijing Winter Olympics, and construction of Xiongan New Area, it is necessary for universities to be aware of national demand on leading talents and focus shall be put on language learning, familiarity with knowledge relating to international organizations, and designing relating courses.  

After the report, Wu Jisong also presents 20 sets of Beyond the Horizon as the gift to BISTU in the hope that students and faculties could learn more about international situation and broaden their horizon.

Prof. Wu Jisong is national excellent science and technology faculty, Foreign Associate of Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, Director of China Research Center of Circular Economy at Beihang University, member of Municipal Expert Consultant Committee, and guest professor of BISTU. His research interests cover economic development policy and innovative knowledge economy. And he proposes the theory of restoration of ecological system, hosts the planning of water resources, and starts New Circular Economics.
