Dear Faculties and staff, dear students, dear alumni, dear friends,  

We are marching forward in the passage of time. On the moment of saying goodbye to the past year and greeting the new year, we would like to, on behalf of BISTU, extend New Year greetings and best wishes to all students, faculties and staff, alumni home and abroad, and friends of all social circles! 

History always evolves along its own course. Our footprints have been marked on the course from 2022 to 2023 and are carrying our experiences in the New Era. This year, we saw grand opening of the 20th CPC National Congress where the blueprint of great rejuvenation of Chinese nation has been drafted. Facing with turbulence in international environment and the arduous task of achieving the goal of reform and domestic stability, the whole Party and all Chinese people, under the strong and firm leadership of the Party with Xi Jinping as the core, have overcome one after another barriers and achieved social and economic stability. 

  

 

 

The year 2022 marked the 85th anniversary of BISTU and a key year in the 14th Five Year Plan. On this special historical point, BISTU carries forward the exploration and endeavor of our predecessors and ignites the transformation and innovation in building a high level university with distinctive feature in information technology. Laying emphasis on greeting the 20^th CPC National Congress, our fundamental mission is to comprehensively implement educational philosophy and guidelines of the Party and to foster virtue through education. Based on the 3^rd Party Congress of the University and strategic framework of the 14^th Five Year Plan, the University is oriented towards high quality development, enhancement of “construction of five environments”, and integration into the development of our nation and of Beijing. We have made phased achievements in these aspects.  

The year 2022 witnessed consolidation of ideological education. The whole University seriously and rigorously learned and implemented the guidelines and spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress. As a university making continual progress in all its undertakings, we have strengthened the Party’s leadership in all aspects and constantly perfected the mechanism of fostering virtue through education. Facing with the urgency and emergency of covid-19 pandemic containment in the spring and winter of 2022, CPC BISTU Committee has made scientific plans and achieved a series of victories. We became more aware that no one is an island, entire of itself. The future and destiny of each person is closely related with the future and destiny of our nation. Only through unity, solidarity and cooperation can we write a new chapter in building our future. We have actively responded to the call of the Party and achieved successes in a series of courses, including Winter Olympics, Winter Paralympics, pandemic containment on campus, construction and relocation of the New Campus, etc.  

The year 2022 saw us in fostering development with unity and solidarity. The whole University has united closely together and achieved a series of breakthroughs with our passion and strategic discernment. The New Campus was officially open to all students. The first cohort of doctoral students from all corners of China registered with BISTU at Jiuxianqiao Campus with their hopes and expectations, indicating establishment of a complete educational system at BISTU covering undergraduate education, master level education, and doctoral level education. Meanwhile, we continued to work hard on the new round of application for approval of offering doctoral programs in other academic disciplines. Six of our academic disciplines were listed in ShanghaiRanking’s Academic Ranking of World Universities. Now we have confirmed fresh, higher goals for future development.  

The year 2022 has seen enhancement of our educational features. We have made tremendous progresses in all respects. We became the only Beijing-supervised university who has been approved with 2 advanced high precision innovation center on municipal level. Comprehensive reform of “information plus” has covered all first-rate programs. “Digital Industry School” was established and in-depth collaboration has been carried out with famous enterprises such as Baidu and Huawei. BISTU Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base was honored as state-level base (in the first cohort). The University topped peer institutions in terms of University Robotics Competition Index of China. Various competitions of academic subject also saw outstanding performances and pioneering spirit of BISTU students. The features of our talent cultivation became more salient and competitiveness of our graduates has remained top 40 of China for years.  

The year 2022 savoured our efforts in governance. We have been constantly deepening reform in educational appraisal and optimizing development environment for talents, science and technology, and innovation. Steady progresses have been made in “One-stop” student community. Online mechanism for ideological education has been formed. In the principle of “making data instead of students running errands”, digitalization has truly empowered our education. Resources were reasonably allocated, service enhanced, and innovation realized in level and competence of our university governance.  

The year 2022 is a crucial year for the 14^th Five Year plan. We would as usual encounter barriers and difficulties. In still waters or rough waters, BISTUers are now standing on the threshold to new development. We are more aware than ever that the bright future would be built through our wisdom, endeavor, and perseverance. In the coming year, BISTU will follow the guidance and the spirit of the 20^th CPC National Congress and lead all students, faculties, and staff to the future. We would highlight our educational features, strengths, and brands and take initiative in serving national strategy on our high quality development course.  

The year 2022 is a year for World Cup. In a much-watched game, Lionel Messi, the known King of Football, made miracles happen and brought Titan Cup to Argentina. There is only one champion. However, we all shall endeavor to realize our dreams. We have the opportunities and we shall have the courage. In the past year, we aimed at keeping pace with the times and building the best university. Each BISTUer has made progress as much as they could. In the New Year, we would hold onto the principle of “building the best university and achieving the best we can” and create interconnectivity between individual expectations, future of the University, and Chinese Dream. We would unite together as closely as we could to offer each one the opportunities of realizing their dreams and living a happier life.  

This year is the 85^th anniversary of BISTU. The golden autumn in October 2022 witnessed congratulations on BISTU from tens of thousands of faculties, staff, students, and friends of all social circles. Looking back to our efforts in “saving our nation by engaging in industry”, “dedicating ourselves to the service of the country with industrial development”, and  “building a nation of information technology” in the past 85 years, we are to be motivated by our glorious tradition and gain the power of marching forward. Generations of BISTUers in the past 85 years have overcome numerous barriers and experienced innumerable hardships. Yet we firmly held that development is our sole purpose. As time passes, some who had ever made history with us have left and new forces are constantly joining us. History keeps a record of time. All farewells and setting-outs are indicators of new journeys and new endeavors.  

A bright future now unfolds in front of us as the year 2023 approaches. Technology is advancing, economy is growing, and a glittering day is coming to us. In the sunshine of the New Year, let’s extend our gratitude to the past-self who has spared no efforts and who has been fearless when encountering difficulties. Let’s set out for new dreams in the historical wave of a Chinese-style modernization. A brighter future awaits us!
