Beijing, 31st October 2024 (BISTU)--- President Guo Fu met with Oakland University delegation headed by Dean Louay Chamra of School of Engineering and Computer Science on 31st October 2024. Both institutions held Administration Committee Meeting on BISTU-Oakland University (OU) Joint Programs and discussions on external education and training as well as other cooperative issues. The meeting and discussions were joined by Vice President Xiao Zhisong.

On behalf of the University, Guo Fu extended warm welcome to the delegation and offered an introduction to BISTU in respect of the achievements made in master and doctoral education and construction and relocation of the new campus. Guo Fu pointed out that Oakland University is one of the closest friends of BISTU. Both institutions are engineering-oriented and have a lot in common. The past cooperation has been very successful. He stressed that educational exchange and communication between China and the USA have built a bridge of communication for people of the two countries. He invited students of Oakland University to visit and study at BISTU. The two institutions will work together for deepening mutual understanding and providing support with Sino-US friendship. He added.

Chamra extended congratulations to the recent breakthroughs that BISTU has made. He spoke highly of “Global Citizenship in the 21st Century”, President Guo Fu’s address on the Spring 2024 Commencement of Oakland University. Global cooperation is necessary to respond to new challenges of the 21st century. He added that BISTU is the closest friend of Oakland University in China and the School of Engineering and Computer Science would provide financial support and resources for students who choose to study at BISTU.

When chairing the meeting and discussions, Xiao Zhisong expressed that fruitful cooperation owes much to support from presidents of the two universities. It was hoped that cooperation will be strengthened in respect of Sino joint running programs and undergraduate student exchange program so that we would make BISTU-marked and OU-marked contributions to Sino-US educational exchange and communication.

In addition to Administration Committee Meeting on BISTU-Oakland University (OU) Joint Programs, discussions on external education and training, and meetings on undergraduate education cooperation, both institutions conducted communication on strengthening undergraduate exchange and communication. Oakland University delegation also met with students of joint programs and external education and training programs.

Oakland University delegation members included Prof. Gary Barber (China Program Coordinator) and Prof. Lianxiang Yang. The meeting and discussions were joined by directors and deans of Academic Affairs Office, Postgraduate School, International Cooperation Department, International Education School, School of Electromechanical Engineering, School of Instrumentation Science and Opto-electronic Engineering, and School of Information and Communication Engineering.
