ISTAI 2026 Held at BISTU

Beijing, 10th August 2026 (BISTU)--- ISTAI 2026 (the 11th International Symposium on Test Automation and Instrumentation), co-hosted by BISTU and China Instrument and Control Society (CIS) and co-organized by MOE Key Laboratory of Modern Measurement and Control Technology, Electronic Measurement and Instrument Branch of CIS, successfully completed on 7th August 2026 at Shahe Campus of BISTU. The Symposium greeted over 200 experts and scholars from China, Canada, Malaysia, Italy, Pakistan, etc.

Themed on“Smart Measurement and Control Self-consistent Symbiosis”, the Symposium conducted academic discussions on frontier theories and engineering application of precision measurement, intellisense, and automatic control. President Guo Fu addressed the Opening Ceremony hosted by Vice President Mi Jie.

Guo Fu extended warm welcome to friends home and abroad and offered an introduction to BISTU in respect of achievements in automation, instrument science and technology, and coordinated sci-tech innovation. He pointed out that intelligent measurement and control technology is the core engine for industrial digital transformation. It was hoped that new paradigm would be explored to contribute to innovative development of precision measurement and, automatic control and instrument. Guo Fu added.

The keynote speech session saw outstanding reports delivered by ten leading experts home and abroad.

Prof. Song Aiguo of Southeast University systematically presented the integrated technical solution for environmental perception and multi‑task autonomous maintenance of power inspection and maintenance robots. Prof. Shervin Shirmohammadi of the University of Ottawa examined the pivotal role of uncertainty quantification in the closed-loop intelligent measurement and control architecture from the twin angles of measurement standards and AI.

Research Fellow Bian Gui Bin of Institute of Automation of Chinese Academy of Sciences demonstrated breakthroughs in micron-scale biomimetic manipulation and human-robot collaborative precision control for intelligent micro‑surgical robot. Prof. Zhang Hui of Beihang University systematically explained the safety technology architecture for intelligent vehicles, which encompassed drive-by-wire chassis fault diagnosis, in-vehicle trusted security, and extreme-scenario simulation validation.

Syed Agha Hassnain Mohsan, a post doctorate of Peking University, interpreted the progress and trends of NOMA-based integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) technology for 6G evolution. Prof. Mohd Rizal Arshad, a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia and the Dean of the School of Robotics, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), shared insights on integrating multimodal perception and digital twin technologies into autonomous underwater exploration devices.

Research Fellow Liu Yinnian of Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences reported on the progress made in tackling the key challenges of the space-air-ground-deep integrated hyperspectral imaging technology, as well as its practical outcomes in ecological resource monitoring. Prof. Yang Minghui of Tiangong University presented a new frequency-up-conversion wearable energy harvesting structure adapted to human motion.

Associate Professor Damiano Padovani of Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology demonstrated the engineering value of virtual sensors in the low-carbonization and decarbonization control of mobile hydraulic equipment. Prof. Fan Junfang of BISTU shared the latest research findings in the field of spinning aircraft, covering multi‑source navigation and intelligent control.

The invited sessions were respectively hosted by Prof. Wang Hongjun of College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and Associate Professor Gong Yi of College of Information and Communication Engineering.

The Symposium included four parallel technological forums covering “advanced sensing and integrated test and measurement system”, “signal processing and machine intelligence data analysis”, “equipment predictive health management and intelligent manufacturing”, and “environmental informatics and intelligent sensor-based applications”. Discussions and presentations were centered on emerging topics in this field including 3D SLAM reconstruction, precision industrial inspection, rotating-equipment fault identification, bridge structural health monitoring, and drone-assisted fire surveillance.

The year 2026 marked the 20th anniversary of ISTAI, the symposium jointly hosted by BISTU and China Instrument and Control Society. A video clip reviewed the past 20 years’ development of ISTAI and an exhibition was also held on the symposium.

Upon invitation, Vice President and Secretary-General Zhang Tong and Deputy Secretary-General Zhang Li attended the Symposium. The Symposium accepted a total of 112 academic papers. All of them were included in the IET conference proceedings and will be published on the IET Digital Library and IEEE Xplore platforms, as well as indexed in the Ei Compendex database.

MOE Key Laboratory of Modern Measurement and Control Technology helped organize the symposium. Director Su Zhong of the Lab was the Chairman of the Symposium, Executive Deputy Director Wang Liyong of the Lab was Executive Chairman of the Symposium. Deputy Director Fan Junfang of the Lab was the Chairman of the Academic Committee of the Symposium, Deputy Director Xu Zhan was the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Symposium. A number of faculty and students of the Lab joined the Symposium.

CIS and BISTU would continue to host ISTAI to build a high-end platform for academic exchange and communication to contribute to high-quality development of measurement and control technology in China.
