Beijing, 2nd June, 2017 (BISTU)--- Yang Hanbing, a student of BISTU’s School of Automation, is granted the honor of Contestant of Excellent on IET 12th Present Around the World (2017) Competition – China Region Final held in Ningbo. 　

This Competition is co-sponsored by The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and University of Nottingham Ningbo China. The judges are six famous experts and scholars in the area of medicine, science and technology, business and trade and education. After the fierce competition in university region among around 30 universities nationwide, Yang Hanbing and contestants from 23 other universities, who are all first-prize winners of their universities such as Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Sichuan University, Chongqing University, etc., show their talents in the national final.  

Themed on “Creative Ideas for The Transition Apps”, Yang Hanbing elaborates her unique understanding of development of new types of translation apps: with regard to accuracy of translation, she thinks that programming could help in adding word bank in respect of grammar and colloquialisms. And then it is viable to design a function area on UI to narrow down searching scope so that before translation the areas involved have been confirmed. Accuracy then will be greatly improved. This idea is extensively accepted by judges. With regard to interaction defects of software, she proposes a bold idea that a new function is to be programed to let users input context of the text to be translated so that the program could better understand the context before offering the optimal answer. In the Q&A session, with her fluency and deep thinking, she conducts further exploration on these issues with the judges.  

IET Present Around the World  Competition is a global competition for young engineers and students of science and engineering. University region completion of IET Present Around the World Competition is introduced by School of Automation and it is now the third session. Supervisor of this contest is Li Huayan from School of Automation.
