College of Marxism Studies
The College of Marxism Studies of Beijing Information Science and Technology University, originally known as the College of Political Theory Education, was established in March 2011. It was formed on the foundation of the History and Philosophy Department and the Economics and Law Department of the erstwhile College of Humanities and Social Sciences of the university, serving as a department-level unit. In May 2016, it was officially renamed as the "College of Marxism Studies".
The College of Marxism Studies functions as a teaching and academic establishment. It shoulders the responsibility of conducting the teaching of ideological and political theory courses across the entire university, nurturing postgraduate students in the first-level discipline of Marxist theory, and engaging in research on Marxist theory. At present, it has a faculty of 42 full-time teachers, among whom 3 are professors, 10 are associate professors, and 35 hold a doctorate degree. There are six teaching and research departments within the College, namely the Teaching and Research Department of the Sinicization of Marxism, the Teaching and Research Department of Philosophy, the Teaching and Research Department of Modern Chinese History, the Teaching and Research Department of Moral Education and Law, the Teaching and Research Department of Situation and Policy, and the Teaching and Research Department of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
The College centers around information characteristics, constructing a "Digital College of Marxism Studies", assembling academic teams, and fostering academic accomplishments. It currently possesses platform mechanisms for team building, such as the young teacher mentoring system and the bi-weekly academic forum for young teachers. It houses university-level scientific research institutions like the "Big Data Research Center for Marxist Theory" and the "Research Center for Clean Government Construction in Colleges and Universities", a College-level scientific research entity known as the "Research Center for Social Governance System of Artificial Intelligence", and a university-level student academic research team named the "Marxist Theory Learning and Research Association". In recent years, the College has been granted a total of 56 national and provincial-ministerial vertical research projects. This includes 2 projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, 11 projects under the Ministry of Education's Humanities and Social Sciences, 3 projects supported by the Beijing Social Science Fund, 35 other vertical research projects, 5 other projects in Beijing, and 10 special projects in the city. It has published over 50 monographs and more than 440 academic journal papers, with 75 of them indexed by CSSCI and 30 included in the PKU Chinese Core Journals.
The College actively undertakes and promotes curriculum construction, teaching reform, and discipline competitions to cultivate teaching achievements. In recent times, the College has achieved 1 second prize in the Beijing Teaching Achievement Award, 1 first prize in the subject group competition of the Beijing University Ideological and Political Course Teaching Basic Skills Competition, 1 first prize and 1 second prize in the National University Ideological and Political Course Teaching Exhibition Activity, and 2 second prizes in the Beijing "Most Beautiful Classroom" Competition. One individual has been honored as a "National Teaching Backbone of Ideological and Political Theory Courses in Colleges and Universities"; one has been named a "Special-Grade Teacher of Ideological and Political Theory Courses in Beijing Universities"; one has been recognized as an "Excellent Moral Education Worker in Beijing"; and one has been commended as a "Pioneer in Education in Beijing". Teachers have guided students to participate in the "National College Students' Ideological and Political Course Public Lecture Exhibition Activity" hosted by the Ideological and Political Course Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, resulting in 2 second prizes and 3 honorable mentions at the national level, 4 first prizes, 1 second prize, and 5 third prizes in Beijing. In the "National College Students' Microfilm Exhibition Activity", they obtained 1 national honorable mention. Since 2019, the College has been responsible for hosting the discipline competition of the "National College Students' Market Research and Analysis Competition", and under the guidance of teachers, students have won 1 first prize and 4 third prizes in the national finals of the postgraduate group, 6 first prizes, 19 second prizes, and 31 third prizes at the municipal level.
Presently, the College complies with the developmental trend of the information age, intensifies the construction of three major systems, namely the team, teaching, and radiation systems, accentuates the characteristics of "information + ideological and political education", follows a differentiated development path, and endeavors to establish a high-level College of Marxism Studies with prominent information features.
