The College of Management Science and Engineering at Beijing Information Science and Technology University was established in 2024. It is a College that combines information characteristics, integrates management and engineering, and features interdisciplinary studies. The College's history can be traced back to the Beiping Municipal Senior Commercial Vocational College in 1937. Since then, it has evolved through various stages, including the Statistical Section and Factory Management Section of the Beijing Finance and Economics College in 1950, the Engineering Management Department of Beijing Machinery Institute in 1958, the Management Engineering Department of Beijing Information Engineering College in 1985, the Management Information System Department of Beijing Machinery Industry College in 1990, the Business Administration Branch of Beijing Machinery Industry College in 1992, and the College of Economics and Management and the College of Information Management in 2008. Throughout the eras of saving the nation through industry, serving the country through industry, and strengthening the country through information, it has made significant contributions to the economic development of both the country and the capital.
The College offers two first-level disciplines, namely Management Science and Engineering (covering both Engineering and Management) and Intelligent Science and Technology. It also has four professional master's degree programs, namely Electronic Information - Big Data Technology and Engineering, Engineering Management, Industrial Engineering and Management, and Logistics Engineering and Management. Currently, there are four undergraduate majors, namely Big Data Management and Application, Information Management and Information System, E-commerce, and Quality Management Engineering. The discipline of Management Science and Engineering is a key discipline under construction in Beijing, and the Information Management and Information System major is a national first-class major.
The College presently has a total of 101 faculty members, among which 94 are full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, 77 hold a doctorate degree, 13 are professors, 35 are associate professors, 5 are doctoral supervisors, and 53 are master's supervisors. The teaching staff includes experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, national millions-of-talents, national young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions, Beijing scholars, new century excellent talents of the Ministry of Education, as well as numerous scientific and technological management talents with outstanding contributions in Beijing, such as Beijing Great Wall scholars, Beijing science and technology new stars, Beijing outstanding talents, Beijing outstanding young talents, Beijing curriculum ideological and political teaching masters, Beijing young and middle-aged backbone teachers, and Beijing young science and technology support talents, totaling over 60 person-times. It also has the Beijing Strategic Science and Technology Talent Team, the Beijing Excellent Teaching Team, the Beijing Outstanding Young Talent Team, and the Academic Innovation Teams of the Beijing Talent Strengthening College Plan (including the Knowledge Management and Intelligent Decision-making Innovation Team and the Knowledge Management Research Innovation Team).
The College is in possession of five provincial and ministerial research institutions, namely the Beijing Key Laboratory of Green Development and Big Data Decision-making, the Beijing Knowledge Management Research Base, the Beijing International Science and Technology Cooperation Base for Intelligent Decision-making and Big Data Application, the Beijing World City Circular Economy System (Industry) Collaborative Innovation Center, and the Key Laboratory of Cultural Relics Intelligence and Big Data of the Beijing Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage. Additionally, there are eight university-level scientific research institutions, such as the Network Data Security Testing Joint Laboratory, the Media Big Data Research Center, the Business Big Data Research Center, the Intelligent Accounting Research Center, the Intelligent Service Research Institute, the Certification Quality Evaluation Center, the Information System Research Institute, and the Big Data Intelligent Auditing Research Institute. In recent years, the College has undertaken over 50 national and provincial and ministerial projects, including national key research and development science and technology plan projects, science and technology support plan projects, and national natural science foundation projects. It has won 1 National Science and Technology Progress Award as the first completion unit and more than 10 provincial and ministerial awards, such as the second and third prizes of the Beijing Science and Technology Award and the second prize of the Beijing Philosophy and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievement Award.
The College places great emphasis on the quality of talent cultivation at all levels. While strengthening the theoretical foundation of students, it also focuses on practical teaching, attaches importance to employment quality, and pays attention to the cultivation of students' practical abilities. Through organizing various competitions, lectures, social practices, and other activities, it aims to cultivate students' innovative spirit and practical abilities, thus laying a solid foundation for their future development. The employment salaries of the College's students rank firmly within the top 40 in the country. A large number of students have entered top domestic and foreign universities, such as Peking University, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Columbia University, and the University of Sydney, for postgraduate studies. The tracking surveys of graduates show that the students cultivated by the College are highly welcomed and praised by employers.
The College actively engages in international cooperation and academic exchange activities both at home and abroad. It jointly cultivates master's degree students in electronic information with Oakland University in the United States and conducts cooperative education programs in the 2 + 2, 3 + 1, and 1 + 1 + 1 models with foreign universities such as University College Cork in Ireland, the University of Wisconsin - Parkside in the United States, the University of California, Riverside in the United States, and the University of Missouri - Kansas City in the United States. Students also have the opportunity to participate in short-term study programs at universities such as the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, Kyoto University in Japan, the National University of Singapore, and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany. Moreover, the College maintains academic exchange and cooperation relationships with universities such as the University of Toronto in Canada and RWTH Aachen University in Germany.
